Project Title: The Aurelia Gown
Year: 2024
Medium: Custom gown

The Aurelia Gown was a custom commission created for a wedding, with the entire design centered around a rare vintage Galliano silk fabric. The material itself was the inspiration—a lightweight, beautifully draping silk featuring a stunning gradient of pink and purple, overlaid with vibrant, neon green text that evoked the look of flames. A lilac silk chiffon was sourced as the lining, perfectly matching the purple tones in the main fabric.

This project was a balance of draping and technical pattern-making. The goal was a mini-babydoll silhouette that was fitted yet had an effortless, Grecian quality. Achieving this required extensive trial and error, particularly in perfecting the bodice's drape. This meticulous process—from the initial mock-up and fitting to the final construction—took approximately 40 to 50 hours.

This project was a testament to the idea of letting the textile lead the design. The limited amount of this precious, un-reproducible fabric meant that every cut was precise and intentional. The final result is a one-of-a-kind gown that beautifully honors the unique material it was born from, creating a piece that is as special as the fabric itself.
